Advertisment for CF&I Night School
CF&I Steel in Pueblo, Colorado not only created kindergartens throughout its mining towns, it also created night courses through the Sociological Department. The department's mission was to better its workers through social programs designed to teach them a better way of life. The Sociological Department acted on the assumption that CF&I workers were somehow inferior and needed help from others in order to have a better life. CF&I instituted many courses which ranged from domestic skills such as cooking and sewing to lectures on hygiene from CF&I doctors. Even Dr. Richard Corwin, the head of the Sociological Department, toured the camps and gave some lectures on hygiene.
