Rockvale, CO. Public school building.

Rockvale's kindergarten opened in 1900, and operated in one of the public school rooms. The kindergarten class in Rockvale was so popular that it was divided into two sessions, morning and afternoon. Pictured are photos of the classes circa 1900.

Unfortunately, the Rockvale kindergarten had to be given up in 1902, when the room was needed for more primary school classes. Many children ended up staying at the school for two consecutive first grade years in order to make up for missing kindergarten. After the kindergarten's closure, the CF&I Sociological Department provided supplies and educational materials for a local boys' club.
